EFLS Children’s Art

Watching the EFLS Children’s Art progress from idea to fruition is a highly rewarding creative experience. It demonstrates the wonderful collaborative relationships among teachers, students, and parents at Point Road and Markham Place Schools. This year’s ideas were a creative collaboration of Meghan Dubois and Lisa Walsh and Point Road and Markham Place art teachers, Ms. Dvorak and Mrs. Lawlor.

Parent volunteers were welcomed into the pre-school and kindergarten classrooms. Pre-schoolers will be creating a collection of precious handprints. And Kindergarten students added their thumbprints as leaves on the tree of life. It was fun to watch each student select the colors for his/her thumbprint.

Under Ms. Dvorak’s tutelage, First Graders decorated vividly patterned fish of all colors to create a festive seascape; Second Graders designed their own fluttering butterflies which are gracefully displayed in a dramatic shadowbox; Third Graders exquisitely expressed something they love on hand-decorated hearts; and Fourth Graders drew fabulous, quirky, and charming self-portraits.

Mrs. Lawlor inspired and advised the Markham Place students to create inspiring and unique pieces of art.  Fifth Graders designed their own puzzle pieces which come together to form a beautiful puzzle reminiscent of folk art;  Sixth Graders created personal mantras in their own custom digital color resulting in a colorful and motivating piece of word art;  using their netbooks, Seventh Graders took selfies and modified them to look like Warhol prints;  and Eighth Graders used Mr. Platt’s fingerprint as a map for writing their names and inspirational words.

The EFLS Children’s Art Committee, including Meghan Dubois, Dina Scalzo, Carole Rogers and Lisa Walsh, sends a big thank you to photographer Nicole Martin for dedicating her time to photograph each grade’s finished project. In addition, Nicole created a professional print of our Third Grade “My Favorite Things” project so the final piece is reduced from poster-size to an easy-to-hang 16”x20”.
