This Year’s Donation Brings Total Amount Funded to More Than $1 Million Since EFLS Founded in 1995

LITTLE SILVER, N.J., May 18, 2016 – the Education Foundation of Little Silver (EFLS) announced today that it has provided a record $112,000 in funding to the Little Silver Public Schools to ensure the delivery of critical technology to teachers and students at Point Road and Markham Place. This funding, raised through generous donations from Little Silver residents and local area businesses, ensures that educational tools such as Chromebooks, Smart TVs and Surface Pros can be purchased and used at the schools for the enrichment of the community’s children without raising the schools’ cost structure and local tax burden.  A majority of the funds –$103,000–was raised at the annual fundraiser at Ocean Place in Long Branch this past March.

“The annual fundraising event for the EFLS was an enormous success,” said Carolyn M. Kossack, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools, Borough of Little Silver. “This demonstrates that the community can meaningfully impact the school district by exceeding amounts raised in previous years and fulfilling the EFLS’s goal of providing at least $100,000 to place current technology into the hands of our children and teachers. It is with heartfelt gratitude that I thank the members of the EFLS, the sponsors, private donors, staff and attendees who made this year’s event the most successful ever!”

The majority of the $103,000 was raised at the annual EFLS fundraiser in early March at Ocean Place in Long Branch, thanks to a huge community turnout and continued generous local sponsorships. This year’s proceeds will help fulfill teacher grant requests, including:

  • The purchase of approximately 165 Chromebook computers, which brings the district significantly closer to its goal of having one Chromebook for each student. Chromebooks are useful for classroom collaboration, utilizing online research tools and countless other benefits.
  • Surface Pro and TV packages to replace and update ageing equipment across multiple grades. Surface Pros allow teachers and students to reach beyond the classroom, accessing information quickly so it can be easily shared.
  • The purchase of specific tools to deepen children’s immersion in the exciting and critical areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), music and the arts.

“What an amazing year the EFLS had in 2016, thanks to unprecedented levels of community support,” said Kris Kennedy Scuorzo, EFLS President. “On behalf of the EFLS, I want to thank our generous sponsors, the Little Silver teachers and the Board of Education, as well as the countless individuals who volunteered, attended and donated to our annual fundraiser. It is such a thrill to see our community come together for one common and worthwhile goal.”
